Poetry – To Poet or not to Poet?

I have never attempted to write poetry. Not since being a child when the attempts were made in school.

I remember trying to write limericks, rhyming words, having multiple stanzas. But I didn’t think I was any good at it.

As you may know… I have a professional Instagram @farmancreates so I thought since I’m trying to put myself and my work out there perhaps I should follow some publishers and professionals to see what opportunities if any were out there.

I’m pleased to say the poetry world is popping. There are a few publishers looking for people to contribute to their anthologies. A publisher reached out to me and I thought I’d try it. It’s all experience at the end of the day and being published is pretty damn awesome.

So I stepped out of my comfort zone and attempted a few pieces. I realised that as long as its a subject I’m passionate about I can write about it.

It didn’t take me long once I was in the flow of things. So then I thought perhaps after I’m published in the anthology, maybe I’ll have enough material to publish my own book of poetry.

I’m going to keep writing poetry if the subject means something to me. But my main focus will remain the articles I’m working on plus my novels.

It’s worth stepping out of your comfort zone once in a while though just to remind yourself what you can accomplish.
